A blend of 55% Grenache, 32% Mourvedre, 12% Syrah, and 1% Petit Syrah, it boasts a medium to dark purple-blue core with a fluorescent purple rim. Usually a Syrah-dominant blend, this one flips the script and goes heavy on the Grenache and Mourvedre, producing a slightly leaner and more peppery version of this wine. Crushed blueberry, spicy black cherry, ground black peppercorn, and powdered graphite are all present and perfectly aligned. Tannins are a touch chalky and will need a year or so to integrate, but it’s well-made and wonderfully balanced and should age very well for a decade or more with proper cellaring. 9 barrels were made.
