PROSPICE Mourvèdre, Horse Heaven Hills 2018
A blend of 97.5% Mourvèdre and 2.5% Syrah coming from the Horse Heaven Hills area, this wine is aged 17 months in neutral French oak barrels and sees 33% whole cluster during fermentation. As a first effort from Prospice in making a Mourvèdre, they are on track to making some magnificent ones in the future. Marionberry, violet, freshly ground black pepper and old leather aromas spill from the glass. On the palate, you taste wild blackberry, freshly ground clove, roasted elk loin and purple flower petals combined with medium tannins and medium acidity. I love unique wines from Washington and this one is a welcome addition. It’s a bit gamey and funky - I loved it. Give this two more years in the bottle for it to really shine. 120 cases produced.
