The 2018 GSM from Balboa sports a medium to dark ruby-garnet core with a lighter purple rim and is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Tons of ground black peppercorn and iron fills the nose upon opening, and then move to notes of mountain blueberry, ground peppercorn, grilled game, crushed olives, and salty brine. Tannins are rounded and silky smooth alongside the mouthwatering acidity. It finishes with a bitter herbal and baked plum note. Just 74 cases were made.
