This Buty Syrah from The Rocks District is comprised of 81% Syrah, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Mourvedre and contains 13.9% alcohol. Complex, fascinating and ever-changing on the nose, I kept coming back to this wine over the course of a few hours and was treated to something different every time. It’s complex. It’s intense. It’s a wine that makes you think. I wish that I had a few extra bottles in my cellar to see how this wine shows five years from now. On the nose, you are greeted with baked blueberry, black cherry, stewed beef roast, Schezawan pepper and a touch of loamy earth. The balanced palate shows dark plum, macerated blueberry, grapefruit pith, peppered salami, smoke and just a faint touch of dried mint. As this Syrah evolved in the glass it became a bit earthy and even more complex.
