The 2020 Piolet Syrah is a knockout wine that is an absolute must for lovers of this varietal. Reminding me of a top Syrah coming out of Paso Robles, this wine has it all. 100% Syrah aged in 75% new French oak, this wine is deep purple in color and shows aromas of slight oak and green olive. The stunning entry showcased velvety and settled tannins that produced a decadent mouthfeel. Entry thru mid-palate introduced ripe plum, prune, and fig paste that danced with hickory smoked burnt ends and white pepper (and it didn’t miss a step). Faint fennel showed late in the game as it headed towards a 45-second finish. Only 75 cases of this hedonistic effort were produced. It is approachable now and should have 20+ good years ahead of it. This should be one of the top Syrahs of the vintage coming from Washington. A true gem of a wine.
