The 2016 Merlot is a fabulous release from Pahlmeyer in this vintage. This utterly seductive Merlot includes a dash of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon which all spent 20-months in 85% new French oak. The wine itself opens to inviting aromas of ripe blackberries, blueberries, sweet spices, mocha, violets, graphite, sage and hints of earth that all burst from the glass. On the palate this delivers loads of full-bodied richness, with a wonderful voluptuous texture wrapping the layers of ripe concentrated dark fruits that envelope the supple finish. It is an absolute pleasure to taste this stunning Merlot today, however it will likely be even more impressive with a few more years of bottle age.
