The 2016 Cabernet Franc is another gem from Chappellet in this vintage. This instantly begins to impress with profound aromas of ripe blueberries and crème de cassis, which are followed by crushed violets, mountain herbs and hints of sweet spices all developing in the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied, deep and concentrated with wonderful opulence and a gorgeous layered texture that expands seamlessly into the luscious finish. While this is nothing short of delicious today, this youthful Cabernet Franc will without question continue to evolve beautifully over the next decade. However, I expect this will require another two or three more years of bottle age before it sheds some fat and begins to show its best stuff.
