The 2020 Syrah from Bien Nacido Estate contains 97% Syrah and is co-fermented with 3% Viognier. The gorgeous deep purple color with a neon red rim is followed by complex notes of blackberry, black plum, candied violets, dried bay leaf, crushed black peppercorn, and cedarwood. This full-bodied, ripe beauty has gobs of fruit, a solid backbone of acidity, and a striking peppery finish. I love the cool climate notes on the nose, but it still suggests a lot of lushness on the palate. This one is going to age wonderfully for 10-15 years.
