A terrific Cabernet Sauvignon that is aged in 50% new French oak and 33% new American oak that stood out to me, despite the fact that it was tasted alongside some of the best wines that Fidelitas offers. When I see American oak being used, it always throws me for a loop, as I typically expect aromas of heavily accented dill and coconut aromas on the wine that I would expect from a Spanish Rioja or a California Zinfandel. But this 2018 Fidelitas Blackwood Canyon Cabernet oozes forth stunning concentration of fruit and a dark purple color in the glass. The mouthfeel is perfectly balanced and the senses are treated to a parade of blackberry liqueur, freshly laid tar, toasted cloves and smokey brisket flavors. It carries a focused core of fruit, acidity and silky tannins. It could still use a year or two in bottle, but then expect to enjoy it for another decade or more. Highly recommended.
