One can determine a great winemaker, rather than a good winemaker, with what they do in very warm vintages with their wines. Corliss continues to impress with this 100% Syrah that is aged in approximately 60% new French oak. It is rich in texture, decadent in mouthfeel and the fruit is extracted perfectly with a balance that is close to perfect. Aromas of dusty road, wild blueberry, smokey beef brisket and pepperoni are present on the nose. The palate is a stunning melange of blue and black fruits, huckleberry, dried flower petals, charcuterie and black peppercorns that pop in your mouth with a finish that lasts for minutes. Medium acid, coherent silky tannins produce an almost perfect example of Washington Syrah. It is meaty, delicious and wonderfully fragrant. Highly recommended.
