The 2017 Chappellet Napa Valley Merlot is fantastic in this vintage. The Merlot was was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels (40% new), and was blended 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. As far as the wine itself, it bursts opens with attractive aromatics of black cherries, black plums, warm baking spices, spices, fresh herbs and hints of violets that all soar from the glass. On the palate this is medium-bodied with soft plush tannins and a lovely seamless, yet supple quality that is underlined by a lovey touch of acidity which provides a wonderful sense of freshness though the finish. Winemaker Phillip Corallo-Titus has crafted a faboulus Merlot which is accessible upon relase and also has the potential to age for at least a decade.
