The Ryan vineyard was named after Calera's Vineyard Manager Jim Ryan. It's West-facing and reaches 2,500 feet at its highest point on Mt. Harlan. The 2011 Pinot Noir is a terrific showing, offering lovely aromas of bing cherry, red currant, cassis, green bean, ash, forest floor, fresh mint and earth. Stylistically, it starts out on the modern side, but transitions into a long dry finish with lots of refined fruit. Overall, this is a great blend of old and a new-world style that is drinking well now, but will also continue to show well for another 10-15 years. (Best 2015-2030) - March, 2014 (MD)
