The 2017 'Estate Cuvée' is another absolutely sensational release from Kapcsándy in this vintage. Composed of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, this opens to gorgeous aromatics of sweet dark currants, crème de cassis, graphite shavings, sweet pipe tobacco, fresh cut violets, exotic spices and underlying hints of licorice, herbs and iron all taking shape in the glass. On the palate this displays incredible class and finesse, though its medium-bodied frame that is impeccably balanced and structured, with beautiful polished tannins that are velvety and seamless. It remains focused and precise with a notable streak of minerality framing its ripe core. The Estate Cuvée is an utterly compelling wine that is crafted in a beautifully refined style, but also possesses the classic Napa fruit characteristics one would expect. It is already showing incredibly well at this early age, but I would not expect anything other than for it to become even more impressive as it evolves over time.
