Charles Smith sources this Chardonnay from the Frenchman Hills vineyard, which was planted in 1998 and is located roughly 30 miles north of the Wahluke Slope. The Frenchman Hills Vineyard is a cooler site due to the high elevation (1650 feet). This Chardonnay saw 30% new French oak and was aged on the lees for 15 months prior to bottling. This Chardonnay begins with aromas of butter, brioche and pear, leading to dense flavors of starfruit, red delicious apple and nutmeg with brioche toast. Lovely intensity and viscosity to this premier bottling. (Best 2016-2024) - April, 2016 (OB)
