A small three barrel production from Yao Family Wines, the 2016 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot and spent 22 months in 100% new French oak. It begins with aromas of black cherries, crème de cassis and a traces of blueberries, which are woven together with spices, chocolate, loam and hints of sweet toasted oak that all immediately emerge from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied Cabernet displays notable overall structure and concentration with a long, well defined finish. Overall, this is a fantastic release that offers some nice appeal upfront, however it will be best suited with a few years of bottle age.
