Tierra Roja Vineyard is situated in the Eastern section of Oakville, surrounded by some of Napa's most prestigious properties, and the vineyard is well-known for its distinct red-tinged soil, hence the name. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon opens to aromas of crème de cassis, dark plums and shades of dark cherries which are followed by black olives, exotic spices and warm licorice nuances all taking shape. On the palate this is full-bodied and beautiful round textured, backed by wonderful overall balance and concentration. Flavors of dark red fruits, black olives and spices that continue to build as it heads into the long, voluptuous finish. While certainly appealing now, I expect this should go on to evolve nicely over the course of the next decade. This is another excellent vintage for Tierra Roja and winemaker Jeff Ames.
