Grapes coming from the famed Hyde Vineyard in Carneros and then aged sur lie for 16 months in 75% new French oak barrels, the Goldberg Variations is another charming Chardonnay from Paul Lato. An eye-popping light lemon color with a silvery rim in the glass, it furnishes an intense nose with fragrances of ripe yellow peach, Meyer lemon peel, orange blossom, and toasted tree nuts. The palate is wonderfully rich and full of luscious stone fruit flavors, honeydew melon, dried mountain sagebrush, and an interesting tilled earth component. With mouthwatering acidity, a round texture, with almost a tannin-like sensation in the mouth, this will be a fun wine to open in 10 years to see how it has evolved. Just 150 cases made.
