The 2014 Ontañón 'Ecologico' Rioja is a good value wine from this estate. Grown from Tempranillo vines set at 470 meters, this wine saw an extended maceration. The wine begins with a penetrating purple hue (no doubt from the maceration) and has aromatics of prune, red cherry and suggestions of pipe tobacco. There are flavors of red raspberry, red cherry preserves, anise and leather. Done in the modern style, this shows nice richness but is a tad out of balance. (Best 2016-2022) - July, 2016 (OB)
