The 2016 Ornellaia is an absolutely brilliant wine from this famed Bolgheri estate. The bland of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot was aged 20 months in 70% new French oak. The result is a stunning wine that opens with seductive aromas of blackberries, plums and hot stones with some oak influence showing in the background. On the palate this is full bodied, concentrated red is structured with soft and well-refined tannins and and shows remarkable balanced all the way through the long plush finish. The 2016 is a monumental showing and while it possesses wonderful appeal, it also has the potential to last decades.
