2013 Top 100 - Rank # 10
The name Pietradonice comes from the land where the wine is planted, which is very rich in onyx. The 2010 is absolutely outstanding, fresh, concentrated and layered with ripe dark cherries, cream de cassis, raisin, leather, vanilla, violets and mineral. It shows impeccable structure and balance with wonderful purity of fruit. The finish is long, leaving you with a mouthful of juicy fruit to chew on. This is so delicious and approachable now it's hard to advise anyone to wait, but that being said, there is no reason to rush, this will last decades if you can resist the temptation. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and readers who enjoy the varietal should seek this out and see how the Montalcino terroir plays an influence. (Best 2014-2026) - March, 2013 (JD)
