The 2009 Mazzano appears to be the most compelling Amarone from Masi in this vintage. Mazzano is a single vineyard cru Amarone is composed of Corvina, Rondinella, Molinari. As this incredibly complex wine opens it releases seductive aromas of blackberry, cherry and plum reductions along with exotic spices, violets, bittersweet chocolate, tobacco, tar and hints of new leather. On the palate this is full-bodied, powerful and remarkably concentrated with an opulent, mouth coating texture, but shows a bit more overall poise than the Campolongo di Torbe. It continues to deliver rich layers ripe dark fruits and exotic spices into the long, persistant finish. This Amarone is utterly delicious today, but also shows incredible aging potential as well.
