The 2014 Margheria Barolo from Azelia is a lovely showing in this vintage. Classy and refined, this slowly unwinds in the glass releasing aromas of sliced strawberries, cherries, fresh cut florals, licorice, spices and wet stones which all take shape. On the palate this is tightly wound, with bright acidity and remarkable overall structure with a core of bright red fruits that continue to leave an impression all the way through the ultra-long finish. There is no question about the quality of the 2014, however it is quite restrained at this youthful age and will need significant time in the cellar to further develop and soften. All being said, it certainly has the potential to evolve beautifully over time, but patience will be essential.
