The Graacher Domprobst Spätlese #5 is another stunning wine from Willi Schaefer in this vintage. Graacher Domprobst is surrounded by Graacher Himmelreich, and lies in the center of the Graach, where it is protected it from wind and frost. The soils are composed primarily of stony weathered slate, which provides warmth, resulting in an even and complete ripening. Even at this early stage the 2015 is already extremely impressive, as it opens to pretty aromas of citrus zest, nectarine, fresh blossoms and minerals. On the palate this is simply gorgeous as it demonstrates incredible ripeness with wonderful concentration of flavor, precision and striking balance of fruit and acidity through the briliant finish. Willi Schaefer produces some of the most sought-after Rieslings in the world, and this is certainly one that should not be missed. (Best 2018-2040) - January, 2017 (JD)
