The village of Piesport set on the north bank of the Mosel. At the foot of the Piesporter Goldtröpfchen vineyard in Piesport, a 4th-century AD Roman press house was discovered in 1985. The south facing Piesporter Goldtropchen vineyard has very steep slopes. The soil there is set on slate but has clay-like characteristics when wet. This Spatlase opens with lovely aromas of petrol, white wild flowers, Meyer lemon oil and ripe pear. There are flavors of orange marmalade, red delicious apple, Welches white grape juice and Key lime, alongside a long and lingering finish that coats the tongue. Impressive bottling here that has a refreshing edge, with nice density. The structure will make this one last well beyond a decade. (Best 2016-2028) - February, 2016 (OB)
