The 2012 'Cuvée Laurence' is a fabulous showing from Domaine du Pégaü in this vintage. It is composed predominately of Grenache, along with Syrah, Mourvèdre and 10% other varieties from the region. This instantly begins to impress as it releases its seductive aromas of dark plums and cherries, which are laced with leather, smoke, pepper, Indian spices and smoked meats. This beautifully structured red possesses a full body, which is wrapped in gorgeous velvety tannins and displays remarkable overall balance and finesse. This continues to impress all the way through the finish, as flavors of dark plums, cherries and spices remain persistent. While this is already extremely appealing, readers will be rewarded by allowing this to evolve over the next decade. Cuvée Laurence is consistently one of the most compelling wines to come from the region, and it certainly lives up to that reputation in this vintage. (Best 2020-2038) - February, 2017 (JD)
