The 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin 'Au Velle' is showing spectacular today. As this slowly awakens from its nearly two decade slumber it begins to release striking aromas of wild raspberries, cherries, dried flowers, herbs, dried exotic spices and hints of game which all take shape beautifully. On the palate this is beautifully balanced and precise, with a gorgeous silky texture that gracefully wraps the core of sweet cherries and dried spices that expand through the finish. Overall this is a fabulous Gevery from Denis Mortet that is drinking exceptionally well at this stage in its evolution and could go on to offer another decade of drinking pleasure.
