Domaine Auguste Clape is one of the benchmark producers in Cornas, and the 2013 is a testament to the level of quality you can expect in almost any given vintage from this Domaine. As this begins to open it releases absolutely seductive aromatics of ripe blackberries, smoked meat, charcoal, black olive, fresh floral and mineral accents all coming together and soaring from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied, dense and beautifully concentrated. It remains well-structured, with outstanding depth and balance, as it delivers layers of dark ripe fruits which expand across the long, expressive finish. Today, this already shows wonderful appeal, however this is ultimately an age worthy wine, and I only expect this to continue to evolve gracefully over the next decade and beyond.
