CHÂTEAU RAUZAN-SÉGLA Margaux 2001

This storied state dates back to 1661. In 1983, Rauzan Segla hired Professor Emile Peynaud as their consulting oenologist. By 1986, after an extensive renovation, Chateau Rauzan Segla was once again a modern, state of the art winery with 20 new, stainless steel, fermentation vats and new, modernized cellars. The property spans 52 hectacres in Margaux. The blend (63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc) is fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks. The wine is then matured in barriques (60% new) for 18 months. This wine opens with aromas of graphite, anise, blackberry and cassis. There are flavors of blackberry, cassis, spicebox, alongside mild tannins. An absolutely delicious effort from this estate and still lithe and alive with bright acidity. An exceptional wine from this overlooked vintage. (Best 2016-2030) - January, 2015 (OB)
