1949 is considered the last of three great vintages in the 1940's for Château Cheval Blanc. This legendary Bordeaux is composed of 42% Merlot and 58% Cabernet Franc and displays an amazing garnet color with basically no bricking around the edges. It offers wonderful aromas of plums, cedar and that intoxicating asian spice component in which you find in great vintages of this wine. It's rich and seductive, as the plum and cedar characters carry over onto the palate. This demonstrates great balance with nice weight and layers of fruit which all come together beautifully on the fantastic long finish. It's truly unbelievable that this wine is 64 years old and still rocking! - September, 2013 (JR)
