The 2009 Vina Chocalan Gran Reserva Blend is medley of 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Syrah, 15% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Franc, 9 % Carmenère, 4% Petit Verdot. Pitch black in color and packed tightly with blackberry jam, dark currant, bell pepper, tar, toasted oak and mocha. This is a big, concentrated wine with a full body supported by round, polished tannins. The finish is long and supple but shows a tart edge, which is out of character for the wine, but it should flesh out in time. Nice value here. (Drink 2012-2017) - July, 2012 (JD)
