NIKOLAIHOF Riesling 'Vinothek' 1997

The 1997 ‘Vinothek’ Riesling from Nikolaihof is a simply extraordinary wine from this fantastic vintage in the Wachau. This wine spent 17 years in the cellars of Nikolaihof aging in a large cask before being bottled in 2014. The result is a wine of pure elegance and beauty which offers an incredible range of complexities. As this wines slowly begins to open it takes on gorgeous aromas including quince, pineapple, unripe banana, honeycomb, dried white raisins, yellow plum, jasmine and wet stones all underlined by the characteristics of the slow oxidation this wine experienced over the past two decades. On this palate this offers wonderful viscosity and beautiful balance, focused around an intense mineral driven core. Overall this is a compelling wine which constantly morphs shape with each second in the glass. Readers will be nothing short of completely captivated by this magnificent Riesling. (Best 2016-2026) - July, 2016 (MD)
