The 2018 Cheval des Andes is a blend of 70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. It opens to inviting aromas of freshly crushed blackberries, plums and dark cherries laced with violets, spices, earth and mocha, all taking shape. On the palate this is full, rich and voluptuous, yet light on its feet, with remarkable depth and concentration. Plush layers of ripe dark fruits come together with spices and violets as they build up to the long, opulent finish. Even at this early age the Cheval des Andes is accessible and extremely impressive, however it seems to be lacking the tannin structure to take it to the next level.
