The 2011 'Ludovico' from Tenuta di Biserno is an absolutely sensational wine. 'Ludovico' is the flagship from Biserno and the 2011 consists of primarily Cabernet Franc along with the addition of some Petit Verdot. As this opens in the glass, it releases seductive aromas of ripe blackberries, cassis and dark cherries woven together with fresh violets, graphite, pencil shavings, tobacco, smoke, sweet spices, and fresh minerals. This continues to deliver on the palate where is possesses a remarkable rich texture with wonderful viscosity, backed by beautiful round polished tannins. It also shows excellent balance and finesse all the way through the long, supple finish. This is extreamly appealing today, but ultimately this is an age worthy wine, primed for at least a decade of evolution. Just an outstanding wine from Antinori's estate, located in the upper Maremma, among the hills of Bibbona, just north of Bolgheri.(Best 2018-2035) - August, 2015 (JD)
