PAUL LATO Pinot Noir, Santa Rita Hills 'Seabiscuit' 2019

An astonishing Pinot Noir from the Zotovich Vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills that spends 17 months in 65% new French oak barrels brings a luscious nose that I could not stop smelling for over 30 minutes before I took a sip. Constantly changing in the glass, it gives aromas of marionberry, huckleberry, ground black peppercorn, forest floor funk and ground coffee beans. Bountiful acidity, succulent ripe red and blue fruit, silky tannins and measured alcohol combine to produce a seriously scintillating Pinot Noir that deserves some genuine attention from collectors and consumers who are seeking the best of the best. Only 17 barrels produced.
