This is an exciting new project lead by Vintner Dean Papadakis and Winemaker Mike Smith. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from Beckstoffer Georges III is the inaugural vintage and it is fantastic. It immediately impresses with its dark, inky color which is followed by seductive aromatics of blueberries and dark currants that are woven together with sweet baking spices, graphite dust, crushed gravel, violets and dark chocolate shavings that all emerge from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied, voluptuous and beautifully structured with big polished tannins that result in a gorgeous velvety mouthfeel. This possesses a wonderful concentration, with a dense core that is packed with ripe flavors of fresh blackcurrants, exotic spices and dark cocoa that expand through the plush, mouth coating finish. Overall this is a stunning wine that is drinking marvelous today and becomes even more impressive with each second of air contact. That said, this should also have a wonderful future ahead.
