The Podere Sapaio 'Volpolo' is a beautiful blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot & Petit Verdot. It has a dark, inky purple color, and instantly begins to impress as it opens to alluring aromatics of ripe blackberries, dark currants and black cherry, and cassis which come together with crushed stone, black olive, leather, fresh herbs and dried flowers that all develop beautifully in the glass. On the palate this possesses a full body, with a gorgeous voluptuous texture, supported by nicely integrated acidity and chewy, mouthcoating tannins. It shows wonderful overall balance, structure and concentration through the long supple finish. Delicious now, and should continue to drink well for more than a decade.
