The 2018 Merlot is a simply magnificent release from Mayacamas in this vintage. Composed of 94% Merlot which was aged in large founde, and 6% Cabernet Franc which was aged in barrel for a combined 22 months. The result is a fantastic wine that offers inviting aromatics of ripe black cherries, dark plums and hints of blackberries that are joined by dried herbs, tobacco and crushed stones that all come together beautifully in the glass. On the palate this displays a gorgeous medium-plus body that is beautifully structured and defined, with remarkable balance and poise. It goes on to display wonderful freshness, purity and focus all the way through the graceful finish. Overall, this is an absolutely stunning Merlot that should continue to age incredibly well for years to come, and looks to be destined for an even brighter future ahead.
