The 2018 Brilliant Mistake Beckstoffer Georges III Cabernet Sauvignon is truly sensational. This evolves beautifully in the glass, with striking aromatics of fresh blackcurrants, black cherries and a touch of blueberry, which are accented by graphite shavings, violets, dusty nuances, exotic spices, dried tobacco and hints of licorice. On the palate this possesses a gorgeous full body, showing a wonderful combination of power and finesse. It continues to impress with its incredible overall concentration and focus, as well as outstanding structure and balance. It all comes together seamlessly, as beautifully polished tannins frame the core of remarkably pure dark fruits, pencil shavings and hints of exotic spices that resonate through the long, supple finish. The 2018 'G3' is a wonderful example of a classic Rutherford Cabernet, and while it is already nothing short of stunning, it also displays the potential to age gracefully for decades more.
