The 2017 Realm 'Temptest' Proprietary Red is a Right Bank style blend, composed of predominantly Merlot and with about one-third Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from vineyards such as Beckstoffer Orchard and Dr. Crane, as well as Blair Vineyard in Calistoga. This is stunning in 2017, as it shows a bit more restraint then previous vintages, yet still displays excellent power and concentration. This instantly begins to impress with deep, complex aromatics of blueberries, blackberries, exotics spices, violets, graphite, mocha and damp earth that all develop beautifully in the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied and remarkably concentrated, with dense, plush layers of ripe black and blue fruits which expand seamlessly through the wine. It remains nicely balanced and shows excellent freshness and purity through the long, supple finish. This is an absolute knockout from Realm, which is drinking exceedingly well today, yet should continue to evolve beautifully and provide pleasure for many years to come.
