The 2017 'Block 5' is a blend of 69% Cabernet Franc, 25% Zinfandel and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rector Creek Vineyard. It displays a dark inky color and offers bold aromatics of blackberry jam, blueberries, cracked pepper and vanilla, along with hints of dark chocolate, and earthy aromas adding further complexity. This is a full-bodied red bursting with flavors of ripe dark berries, tobacco, forest floor and dark currants. It closes out with broad tannins and a long, plush finish that lingers nicely. This wine really begins to open up nicely after a few hours of air contact and should ultimately offer a drinking window of nearly a decade.
