The 2016 Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon impresses right out of the gate as it bursts open to seductive aromas of ripe blackberries and dark cherries which are woven together with cocoa powder, pencil shavings, dusty minerals, fresh mountain herbs and sweet baking spices that all take shape in the glass. The palate is full-bodied and well-structured with a gorgeous plush texture that is underlined by a gorgeous touch of acidity keeping it fresh and inviting. It shows wonderful concentration and depth with fantastic length on the finish as dark fruits, mocha and spices continue to linger on. This is another fabulous wine from Cliff Lede in this vintage, and while it is sensational in its youth, it should also offer a drinking window that could span two decades.
