The 2016 'Poetry' is a beautifully showing in this vintage from Cliff Lede. Composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot which was sourced from a selection of the best blocks from the hillside terraces of the Poetry Vineyard, as well as Twin Peaks Vineyard estate surrounding the winery, and a few neighboring vineyards in the Stags Leap District. This stunning red begins with inviting aromas of ripe dark currants, black cherries are woven together with violets, graphite, licorice and spices all take shape as this unwinds in the glass. On the palate this stunning wine is full-bodied, dense and contracted, yet displays remarkable balance. It goes on to impress with its dense layered core which is laced beautifully ripe dark fruits that expand seamlessly through the incredibly long finish. While certainly impressive today, this should have an absolutely brilliant future ahead as it is also built to last and has the potential to evolve for over two decades.
