HORSEPOWER VINEYARDS Grenache, Sur Echalas Vineyard 2016

The 2016 Sur Echalas Vineyard Grenache is another absolutely stunning release in this vintage from vignerons Christophe Baron and assistant Elizabeth Bourcier. This head-turning Grenache begins with an enticing bouquet of wild strawberries, potpourri, tobacco leaf and wet stones along with shades of umami, blood orange zest and charcuterie, which all come together beautifully to form the highly complex and satisfying aromatics. The palate is equally as captivating, beautifully balanced, lithe and light on its feet, this simply dazzles as it displays a marvelous combination of salinity and mouth-watering acidity, which gives way to an incredibly complex flavor profile of leather, tarragon, orange zest, red cherry candy, guava and white truffle shavings. The range imparted in the wine is second to none, as is the gorgeous texture which possesses a remarkable seamless quality as it glides gracefully into the radiant finish. Flirting with perfection, 2016 Sur Echalas Grenache is utterly brilliant to say the least, and is quite possibily the most impresive Horsepower release to date. This is a one of a kind Grenache that is certinaly amongst of the most compelling being made anywhere in the world. While simply delightful in its youth, I also expect this to flourish in the cellar and continue to drink beautifully for years to come.
