The 2017 Bien Nacido Pinot Noir from Gavin Chanin is a absolute knockout. It begins with highly perfumed aromatics of wild cherries and fresh red berries backed by dried spices, forest floor, dried soil and wild spring flowers that all come together beautifully in the glass. The palate is simply gorgoeus, beautifully focused with flavors of sweet ripe cherries, pomegranate and earthy notes which are all underlined by a mineral character that persist through the long vibrant finish. As with Chanin's other wines from the vintage, this also displays the elegance, finesse and stunning purity that make his wines so special. This is an absolutely brilliant wine and while striking today, it also looks to be well-suited for long-term cellaring.
