The 2016 IX Estate Syrah is absolutely brilliant and nothing short of perfection. This utterly captivating Syrah has it all, and it impresses with its combination of power, finesse and striking complexity. It immediately seduces with its intoxicating aromatics of ripe dark fruits, roasted coffee, smoked meats, mesquite smoke, savory herbs and black olives, which are just the initial nuances that begin to draw you in. On the palate this is full-bodied and expressive, yet shows notable underlying acidity and minerality, providing balance and adding a lovely sense of freshness. It goes on to impress with its outstanding concentration and stunning purity through the long supple finish. Overall, this is an absolutely incredible Syrah from Colgin and winemaker Allison Tauziet, which is already showing so much character, yet should go on to age gracefully for many years to come.
