The 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a fantastic showing from Domaine de Beaurenard. It begins with aromas of raspberries and red wild berries as well as spring florals, herbs, lavender, licorice, spices and hints of mesquite smoke which all develop in the glass. On the palate this is medium-bodied with a gorgeous combination of ripe fruit and acidity. It continues to impress as it demonstrates wonderful balance and concentration, with a lovely textured mouthfeel leading up to the long, silky finish. Outstanding now and will only become more impressive as it evolves over time. Classy and sophisticated, this is one of the the most compelling releases of Beaurenard’s traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape in years.
