The 2016 Domaine Saint Préfert Collection Charles Giraud is a monumental showing from this esteemed estate run by Isabel Ferrando. This absolutely gorgeous wine is composed of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvèdre from old-vines, which deeply penetrate the soils consisting primarily of rock, gravel and stones. The wine itself begins with striking aromatics of raspberries, blackberries and red plums which are woven together with spices and violets before adding in additional complexities of cocoa bean, smoke and minerals which all come together beautifully in the glass. Showing remarkable balance anda textural richness, this continues to thoroughly impress as it possesses outstanding concentration and depth, as well as stunning purity and elegance through the long graceful finish. While this already shows flashes of brilliance in its youth, it is ultimately a wine which is destined for a remarkable future ahead and will easily stand along side the best vintages of this cuvée.
