2013 Top 100 - Rank # 68 Sourced from the Rancia vineyard, which takes its name from the historic Rancia estate, once a Benedictine monastery located in Castelnuovo Berardenga at elevations ranging between 400 and 420 metres with a fine southwest-facing exposure. The 2009 Chianti Classico Riserva 'Rancia' offers wonderful aromas of blackberry and wild cherry layered with charcoal, smoke, licorice, mineral and pretty floral. This demonstrates excellent structure and focus backed by gorgeous mouthwatering acidity. The finish is long, fresh and chewy leaving behind a mouthful of fresh fruit. So delicious now, but this is really built for the long haul. This is a top house for Chianti Classico and the 2009 is a strong showing. (Best 2015-2027) - March, 2013 (JD)
