spottswoodeSpottswoode is a premier Napa Valley winery which has been growing grapes on their historic Spottswoode Estate since 1972, and making their own world-class wines since 1982. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts in 1910 and it was acquired by Mary and Jack Novak in 1972. Mary released Spottswoode’s first Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982.
Today, Mary’s daughter Beth Novak Milliken manages the winery, and daughter Lindy Novak oversees national marketing. Winemaking and Vineyard Management is managed by Aron Weinkauf with support from Assistant Winemaker James Revie. Every year four wines are released: Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon, and Field Book Syrah. The Novak family is committed to producing wines with integrity that faithfully reflect their grape origins, and Spottswoode wines are especially known for their refined elegance, balance, and classic structure.
Situated on the western edge of St. Helena at the foot of the Mayacamas mountains, the Spottswoode terroir is ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. The alluvial clay loam from the Sulphur Creek fan provides superb drainage while cool maritime breezes passing through the gap between Spring Mountain and the Mayacamas range, allow berries to ripen slowly.
Spottswoode's forty acres are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, with small blocks of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Sauvignon Blanc. They have organically farmed their grapes since 1985, and their vineyard was certified organic in 1992
Spottswoode has earned the esteemed reputation as one of Napa Valley's most iconic wineries from their track record of producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon year after year. Today, the wines are every bit as compelling as ever and are amongst the best Napa Valley has to offer..

Cabernet Sauvignon 'Estate' 2014

The Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is an absolutely sensational showing in this vintage. Composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, which as aged 20 months in French oak barrels (new 60%). As this unwinds in the glass, it releases seductive aromatics of ripe blackberries and dark currents woven together with spices, graphite, fresh florals and hints of cocoa all taking shape. Full-bodied and beautifully structured with remarkable depth and concentration. The tannins are beautifully polished, as this offers a wonderful opulent texture through the long finish. This is a total gem from the team at Spottswoode, and a highlight from the vintage that is not to be missed. (Best 2019-2030)
