Sporting an opaque deep purple core with blueish accents, this 2021 Devil Proof Rockpile Ridge Malbec aged perfectly for 22 months in 100% new French oak barrels. This could be the best Malbec I’ve ever tasted from the United States and possibly the entire world. As you sit with this wine, give it some time to breathe and relax and you will be generously rewarded with an ever-changing experience. It starts off with gorgeous blue and black fruit characteristics that meld wonderfully with secondary notes of cedary herbs, dried violet flowers, and orange-colored dried earth. Tannins are grippy but the mouthwatering acidity brings things in focus on the lengthy finish that goes on for minutes. Better in 2025 or 2026 as it needs some time to relax, or make sure to give it a long decant before enjoying. About 100 cases made. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.
